Research shows that girls who stay in school, delay getting married, have fewer children, ensure that their children become educated, AND have better life options. They also learn about nutrition, vaccination, and other behaviours necessary to raise healthy children themselves.
Educated girls are more ready and able to join the work force, bringing money back to their families and improving their communities.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations reports that, on average, women reinvest up to 90% of their earnings back into their households. That money is often spent on nutrition, food, healthcare and education, which are key to lifting families and communities out of poverty.
Melinda Gates, in her book The Moment of Lift, tells us that half of the gains made in child survival in the past two decades can be attributed to increases in mothers having gone to school.
For every girl that gets an education the world takes a small step forward.
Girls who become educated have opportunities to see strong women in leadership positions and learn about women in other cultures. They learn about basic human rights—their right to education, their right to control their bodies, and their right to choose when and whom to marry.
